Hazel M. Harley 84, of Indianapolis, died February 25, 2006. Hazel was born September 2, 1921 in Harrisville, PA., to the late Oscar and Blanch Norcross Fox. She married the late Richard J. Harley on April 2, 1943 in Ft. Myers, FL.

Hazel was a member of Mille de Fleurs Garden Club, Central District, since 1965. She served as President from 1973 to 1975, also Vice President, Recording Secretary and held several chairmanships. She was a member of the Mud Creek Garden Club, Central District, since 1976. At District level, she served as Corresponding Secretary from 1977 to 1979 and as District Director from 1979 to 1981. She also served as Central District Scholarship State Life and National Life Chairman. She served as State Awards Chairman from 1976 to 1979 and again in 1981. She was a life member of The Indiana Association of Accredited Flower Show Judges; she was a Master Judge Emeritus. Hazel is a State Life and National Life Member, a member of the Indiana Daffodil Society, and a Life Member of the Indianapolis Humane Society Auxiliary. Hazel proudly served as State President of the Garden Club of Indiana, Inc. from 1983-1985.

Her theme while President was: Plan for Progress--in Harmony with Nature.  She encouraged everyone to make membership a priority. Green ribbons stating "Grow with us" were given to each person obtaining a new member. Hazel donated a silver bowl, which is a traveling trophy, and is awarded annually at the State Convention to the District which increases its membership by the largest percentage.
